Window replacement
Window prices follow the frame material, the glass, the size and whether the opening stays the same. This page does not publish a dollar figure.
A supply-only price from a window maker is not the same as a price that includes flashings, reveal linings and making good the plaster.
This guide does not publish a dollar figure. We only print a price when a government agency, industry body or manufacturer has published a rate we can link to. Use the factors and the questions when you compare quotes.
What changes the price
- Frame and glass. Aluminium, timber and uPVC, and single versus double glazing, are different products. Name them.
- Same hole or a new hole. Replacing a window in the existing opening is simpler than widening it, which needs a lintel and a builder.
- Who installs. Some businesses make and install. Others supply only. The quote should say which.
- Flashings and sealing. The window is weatherproof only if the head flashing, sill and sealant are part of the job.
- Inside finish. Architraves, plaster and paint around the opening are easy to leave off.
Questions to ask
- What frame material and glass are specified?
- Is installation included, or supply only?
- Are flashings and sealant included?
- Does the opening stay the same size?
- Who makes good the inside reveals?
- What is the lead time, and is a site measure included?
Common questions
Are glaziers the same as window companies?
Not always. Glaziers replace glass. Window businesses supply frames. The quote should name the business doing each part.
Why no price per window?
Size, glass and installation vary too much for a single public rate, and we will not invent one.
