Gutters and downpipes
Gutter quotes should state the profile, the metal, the length and whether downpipes and spreaders are included. This guide does not publish a price per metre.
A new gutter on a fascia that is rotten, or a downpipe that still dumps water at the footing, has not finished the job.
This guide does not publish a dollar figure. We only print a price when a government agency, industry body or manufacturer has published a rate we can link to. Use the factors and the questions when you compare quotes.
What changes the price
- Profile and material. Quad, square and half-round, and steel versus other metals, should be named so quotes match.
- Fascia and brackets. If the fascia is soft, the gutter quote needs a carpenter or it needs an exclusion that you understand.
- Falls and outlets. Water has to reach an outlet. Ask how many downpipes and where they discharge.
- Storeys and access. Height and scaffold change labour more than the metal does.
- Connected work. Leaf guards, rainwater tanks and stormwater pipes are separate unless listed.
Questions to ask
- What profile, material and colour are included?
- How many downpipes, and where do they discharge?
- Is the fascia assumed to be sound?
- Is scaffold included?
- Are guards or a tank connection included?
- What warranty covers the installation?
Common questions
Is this the same trade as a roof replacement?
Often it is a roof plumber or a gutter specialist, and sometimes it is inside a roof quote. Ask for it as a line of its own so you can see it.
Why no price per metre?
Access, fascia repairs and downpipes dominate the quote. A bare per-metre rate would leave those out, so we do not publish one.
