Turf and soil
Square metres of a rectangular lawn, and soil volume for a depth you choose.
Formula. area = length × width; soil cubic metres = area × depth (mm) ÷ 1000
Assumptions
- The area is a rectangle. For an L-shape, calculate each rectangle and add them.
- Soil depth is the blended soil you want under the turf, in millimetres, not including turf thickness.
- No compaction allowance is added. If the supplier asks for one, increase the depth and note it.
- This does not price turf, delivery or spreading.
Results are quantities. This calculator does not produce a price.
