Tile count
Count tiles from the area, the tile size and a waste allowance.
Formula. tiles = round up( area (m²) ÷ (tile length × tile width in metres) × (1 + waste) )
Assumptions
- The tile size is the nominal size you entered, without grout joints. Grout makes the count slightly conservative, which is what the waste allowance is for.
- The default waste is 10 percent. Patterns, diagonals and small rooms with lots of cuts need more.
- The result is a count of whole tiles, rounded up. It is not a box quantity. Check how many tiles are in a box.
- This does not price a tiler or include adhesive and grout.
Results are quantities. This calculator does not produce a price.
