Paint coverage
Estimate litres of paint from area, coats and the coverage printed on the tin.
Formula. litres = area (m²) × coats ÷ coverage (m² per litre) × (1 + waste)
Assumptions
- Coverage is the figure on the tin for the surface you are painting. If the tin gives a range, pick the low end for a rough or dark surface.
- The default waste is 10 percent for offcuts in the tray, a deep colour and touch-ups. Change it.
- Doors, frames and cutting-in are inside the area only if you included them in the square metres.
- This does not price a painter and does not choose a product.
